Problem -

Imagine we hired a helper to build a product with us. But there’s a strange condition: every time they go home after work, they forget everything.

The next morning, they come back to the office and forget our product, the rules, and what they worked on yesterday.

So we have to explain everything again.

That’s exactly how an AI agent works. It only remembers the current chat or some chats. Once the chat ends, it’s all gone.

Example:

Yesterday you told the agent: In this project, always put buttons in the components/ui folder.

Today, in a new chat, the agent has no idea. So it puts the button somewhere random. It's not being lazy - it simply forgot.

The Scary part is when it Forgets it Gusses

The agent most of times don;t say - I don't remember. Instead, it guesses and keeps building.

Example:

You start building a login feature. You never told the agent how login should work. So it guesses - maybe it picks a method you didn't want. The code runs fine, so you don't notice. Three days later something breaks, and now you're stuck fixing a choice you never even made.

A wrong guess that still runs is the most dangerous kind of bug, because nobody catches it early.

Solutions

Context Files

Remember our forgetful helper? We can't fix their memory. But we can do one smart thing:

Write everything important on a piece of paper and leave it on the desk.

Now every morning, before starting, the helper reads the paper first. They still forgot everything overnight - but the paper tells them what they need to know. No more guessing.
